Are you looking for a delicious, healthy, and easy vegan ice cream? Let me introduce you to Banana Nice Cream, a delicious frozen dessert made only with frozen bananas and a bit of plant-based milk!

Ice cream has a high ranking in my world of desserts — if I had to choose my top five recipes, then ice cream would be on that list for sure.

My favorite ice creams are those with simple ingredients that can be made in a few minutes without an ice cream machine.

Banana nice cream fits all these requirements and the best thing about it is that it is also suitable for vegans!

What Is Banana Nice Cream?

Banana ice cream, a.k.a. “nice cream,” is a frozen dessert made with frozen bananas as a base. If you have frozen bananas and a little bit of plant-based milk, or any other desired type of liquid, then you can make banana nice cream.

Banana nice cream was originally made as a homemade vegan ice cream recipe, but even if you do not follow a vegan diet, you will still love it.

The name nice cream refers to the fact that it mimics real ice cream but is a healthier option. Therefore, the name “nice cream” suits it.

Sometimes you can find it under the name “banana soft serve” because it is indeed a soft serve if served straight away from the food processor — however, you can also freeze it a bit to have that firm ice cream.

What Is Banana Nice Cream Made With?

As you can already tell, the basic ingredients are frozen bananas and plant-based milk.

Before you freeze your bananas, make sure you are freezing ripe bananas, as these have the best and sweetest flavor.

The second important ingredient (and the only other one you need) is plant-based milk. Feel free to use your favorite plant-based milk from your favorite brand!

For those who are wondering if they can use plain milk: yes, you can, but why not stick with this vegan version? It is much healthier and tastes better and more tropical, at least to me.

Can I Use Other Ingredients?

This is a basic recipe, but you can enrich your banana nice cream however you want — try cocoa powder, frozen berries, pumpkin puree, nut butter, pieces of vegan cookie dough, chai spice, or add desired vegan sweetener

All these ingredients blend amazingly with the banana flavor — sometimes with so many options available, I just do not know why we ever go back to the classic vanilla ice cream.

If you want to keep things simple, then just serve ice cream straight from the food processor and top it with vegan chocolate chips

I like to serve mine a bit more frosted, so after I scoop the nice cream into serving bowls, I pop it into a freezer for another 10 minutes.

What Sauce Goes With Banana Nice Cream?

I served banana nice cream with vegan caramel sauce (more on this below). I think it pairs beautifully with the banana flavor, but it will also pair great with chocolate banana nice cream!

How To Make Vegan Caramel Sauce

This vegan caramel sauce is thick, creamy, dreamy, and easy to make. Besides using it for the banana nice cream, you can use it on top of your cake or other desserts.

This sauce requires a lot of stirring, but it is not difficult to make at all.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 cup coconut cream
  • ¼ tsp sea salt

Instructions

1. Heat a pot over medium-high heat. Add the coconut sugar and heat it for 1 minute.

2. Stir in the coconut cream and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat.

3. Simmer the sauce for 15 minutes, stirring, until it thickens. Do not cook it for too long, as the sauce will thicken up as it cools down.

4. That’s it! Your sauce is ready to be served or used however you like.

How To Make Vegan Banana Nice Cream

Preparation time: 5 minutes

Servings: 2

Ingredients

  • 4 frozen bananas, sliced (slice before freezing)
  • 2-3 tbsp of plant-based milk

Instructions

1. Place the frozen bananas and plant-based milk in a food processor or high-power blender.

2. Blend on high speed for 2 minutes, stopping to scrape the sides as needed.

3. If you feel like your blender is having difficulties blending the bananas, add more plant-based milk.

4. Serve nice cream straight from the food processor for a softer texture, or transfer it to a freezer-friendly container to freeze for a more traditional ice cream texture.

5. Scoop the nice cream and serve it however you want — we recommend our vegan caramel sauce, fresh fruits, chocolate chips, or just as it is.

Notes

  • Always choose ripe bananas, as they have the best flavor. Green bananas are not a good option as they are firm and lack flavor.
  • Use your desired type of plant-based milk —we think almond and coconut milk are the best, especially if you can find roasted almond milk.
  • This ice cream is sweet enough on its own, but you can add either agave or maple syrup to make it sweeter.
  • For firmer ice cream, pop the blended nice cream into the freezer for another 10-15 minutes.
