How Long Does Waffle Batter Last?

Waffle batter mainly lasts anywhere between 2 hours to nearly 1 month. Depending upon your choice of ingredients and quantity of batter, you can use the methods below and store waffle batter that’ll stay fresh and good for cooking.

In The Fridge

If you are not willing to let go of the taste and softness of the waffles but still have a good quantity left in the bowl, then storing it in your fridge should be your choice.

Since the waffle batter mainly consists of flour, butter, and eggs, it is possible to store the batter in your fridge but it has its limits.

We would suggest storing the waffle batter in your fridge for no more than 2 days at 40°F or below. Make sure the batter is kept refrigerated the whole time.

Moreover, the batter should be kept in an airtight container or resealable bag to ensure the quality and taste of the batter.

We recommend keeping the container at the bottom rows of your fridge and not the door as the temperature fluctuations at the door might affect the batter.

On The Counter

When left at room temperature, the waffle batter will only remain fresh for 2-3 hours, as the batter consists of both milk and eggs, both perishable ingredients.

With time, the microbes will start contaminating the batter and, eventually, the taste of waffles will change.

You should use the batter within 2 hours to get the best taste and quality of the batter.

Make sure to cover the container during that time. Also, make sure to lightly whisk the batter before use.

Do not keep the waffle batter for 2 hours out on the counter, and then put it in your fridge. This will increase the risk of contamination.

In The Freezer

What if you want to store the delicious waffle batter for longer than 2 days? Is there even a way to do that?

There is! You can store the batter in your freezer for nearly 1 month when kept in an airtight container or zipper bag.

Remember to take out as much air you can from the zipper bag so that it is still fresh. This is still not the best choice for long-duration freshness and taste will decrease with time.

Once you have whisked the stored batter and made the delicious waffles, do not refreeze the batter as it can affect the texture and safety of the food.
