Summer time! Is there anything better than a cold popsicle on a scorching hot afternoon? I bet your furry friends think the same!

Have you ever tried making popsicles for your dogs? These dog popsicles, or pupsicles, are the easiest thing you can make, and the best thing is that you can even enjoy them too!

I know this may sound weird, but these popsicles are just a wonderful blend of fruits, a bit of Greek yogurt, and water. No sweeteners, no artificial flavors, just a fruity frozen delicacy!

Can Dogs Eat Popsicles?

We all know dogs digest foods differently than humans, but this does not mean they can’t share some of our healthier foods, and in this case popsicles.

These popsicles are made with dog-friendly ingredients that will not cause any harm to your furry friend. This combo is an amazing in flavor, but also brings a variety of potential benefits.

Besides bananas and raspberries, here are some other options you can try:

  • Bananas – Dogs can eat bananas in moderation. They are great low-calorie treat for dogs that are rich in potassium, fiber, vitamins, and biotin. Bananas have sugar in them, so they should be only given as a treat, not as a part of their main diet.
  • Blueberries – Blueberries are a powerhouse of antioxidants that have a positive effect on both humans and canines. They can be used instead of raspberries in this recipe.
  • Mango – Mango is a great base for popsicles, just like bananas. The mangoes will give creaminess to your popsicles, and in addition they are safe for dogs.
  • Peaches – This is another fruit that is suitable for dogs. You can use fresh or frozen peaches, and even give some frozen peach slices to your canine. Just make sure you skin the peaches.
  • Pineapple – For a tropical popsicle, you can use pineapple. Clean it as you would for yourself, remove any skin and pineapple eyes. The pineapple is rich in bromelain, and enzyme that makes dogs easier to absorb proteins.
  • Raspberries – The fruits I used here. They are great for senior dogs because they have anti-inflammatory properties which can help against joint inflammation.
  • Strawberries – Another type of berries suitable for your dog. The strawberries contain an enzyme that may help clean and whiten your dog’s teeth. Still, they have natural sugar in them, so use in moderation.
  • Watermelon – If you want to use watermelon, remove any skin and seeds. The watermelon is 92% water and it is great to keep your canine hydrated during the hot summer.

Is It Okay To Give Popsicles To Dogs?

Dog popsicles are delicious and safe frozen treat your pup can enjoy during the summer time. These popsicles are packed with healthy ingredients and will help cool down your pup, but make sure you give them in moderation.

Dog popsicles are available at stores, but they are very pricey. With only few ingredients, you can make popsicles that are super delicious and with such basic ingredients. I even serve these to myself!

Bananas, raspberries, Greek yogurt, and a bit of water – a healthy popsicle for all!

Add-Ons

Dog popsicles can be made with or without dog biscuits. Sometimes I like to toss in 2 dog biscuits into the fruit mix, or just use a dog’s biscuit as a popsicle stick.

If you want to make classic popsicles in a mold, I suggest you use real popsicle sticks. I tried once to pull out the popsicle using a dog biscuit, and the biscuit just broke in half.

Still, if you want to use the biscuits, instead of a classic popsicle mold, use an ice cube tray. The ice cube tray can hold less of the mixture, which is easer to remove from the tray.

Is Greek Yogurt Okay For Dogs?

Greek yogurt is perfectly safe for canines, if consumed in moderation. With just two tbsp of Greek yogurt your dog will not have issues.

The issue may appear if your dog is lactose intolerant. In that case, omit the Greek yogurt, and toss in some creamy fruit, like mango, just to get the right consistency, or some dog biscuits.

For the dogs that are not lactose intolerant, Greek yogurt may only bring benefits, as Greek yogurt brings some of the good gut bacteria that are great even for canines. Make sure you are using plain and unsweetened Greek yogurt.

If your dog is lactose intolerant, you can add in some probiotics, after consulting with your vet about the dosage. This way, a treat can become a delicious cure for your canine’s upset tummy.
