  1. I do apologise for having to disagree with all of your choices. The first Spätzle maker I bought and had for a number of years was the “sliding box” type. I found them horrible to clean (all those narrow track crevices!) and just “OK” to use. The “lid” type looked like a great option but I found it even worse. I’ve even tried the gimmicky squeeze bottle type – what a mess! The best Spätzle maker I’ve ever used is the “Hobel” type that I bought when I was living in Germany. It’s a curved bed of stainless that sits across a pot, with a shaped, flexible scraper used to push the batter through the holes. Mine was made by Silit but Gefu and WMF made them, too. The Silit brand is still available on amazon.de; no idea why it’s so hard to get this type in the U.S. The Weis classic is the only one I’ve found for sale online in the U.S. I can almost guarantee if you try this type, you’ll never go back to anything else. Also, the Wall Street Journal printed an excellent recipe a year or so ago; it’s worth looking up. I didn’t think I’d ever duplicate Spätzle made with special Spätzle flour but this recipe is the one! Viel Spaß mit allem!
