At the end of a long day, we are all in need of a little escape. While we would all like to be whisked away to a luxurious place or at least a spa, we must not forget the comfort in ordinary things.

If you are looking for that and something to pamper yourself after a long day of working hard, then this white chocolate hazelnut spread is the right thing.

This spread is a simple treat, but amazingly good. I have switched my allegiance wholly from Nutella to this homemade goodness.

This spread is made with blanched hazelnuts, coconut oil, powdered sugar, and white chocolate. Such simple ingredients, but such an amazing product!

You can enjoy this nutty chocolate spread on a crisp graham cracker or a piece of good bread, or serve it in a glass of milk or a hot cup of coffee.

Tips For The Best Homemade Hazelnut Spread

  • Toasting the hazelnuts this allows nuts to release the oils which will help turn them into a creamy spread.
  • Melting the chocolate – for the best texture, use good chocolate and melt it completely. For a chunkier version, you can melt the chocolate halfway through.
  • Salting – salt is known for enhancing the chocolate flavor and I always add a pinch in my chocolate-based dishes

How To Store Homemade Hazelnut Spread

Once made, store the hazelnut spread in a container with a lid. You do not have to refrigerate it because it will harden. You can keep this on your counter for up to 2 weeks.

How To Serve Homemade Hazelnut Spread

As mentioned earlier, you can serve it with:

  • Graham crackers
  • With quality bread
  • Croissants
  • As a fruit dip (I find it exceptional with strawberries)

Other ways to use this spread:

  • For a crepe cake
  • To serve with pancakes
  • To use for cake frosting
  • Or just serve as a dipping for chocolate chip cookies

How To Make Homemade Hazelnut Spread

Making your white chocolate hazelnut spread is easier than you think. The food processor is your best friend here and it will do all the work for you.

Always choose a food processor or a high-power food blender. Do not go with a plain food blender, because you will not get the desired results.

The only thing you will have to do here is peel the hazelnuts. To do so, you will have to toast them first. This will also give hazelnuts the nuttier flavor we all love. To toast the hazelnuts, you can either use an oven or a skillet.

I prefer the skillet method as it is way faster, and, I can keep an eye on my hazelnuts and prevent them from burning.

To toast the hazelnuts in a skillet:

  • Add hazelnuts to a large clean skillet. Toast until you can pick up the nutty scent and until the hazelnut skin cracks.

To toast hazelnuts in an oven:

  • Place hazelnuts on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper, and roast for 12-15 minutes, stirring halfway through.

Once your hazelnuts are toasted, place them, while still warm, in a kitchen towel or paper towels. Rub the hazelnuts against each other until the skin falls off. It is easy to peel hazelnuts this way.

Once you have the peeled hazelnuts you can start making your spread. Place the hazelnuts and powdered sugar in a food processor and process until you have a fine powder. Continue to process until the mixture starts to liquify.

While the processor is running, drizzle in melted coconut oil. Add melted white chocolate and a pinch of salt and process for another 10 seconds. Your white chocolate hazelnut spread is ready to serve and enjoy!
