Shrimp Skewers In The Oven

Shrimp skewers are the most versatile and the easiest dinner option. They can be made as you like, with different spices or additions, like onions, lemons or limes, pineapple, or peppers.

These shrimps can be eaten as an appetizer, straight from the skewers, served over a salad, or in a tortilla shrimp roll.

The beauty of shrimp skewers is that they come together so easily and can be tailored to your preferences. You can season them as you like, make them spicy or less spicy, or just season with Mediterranean herbs.

My Secrets For Speedy Grilled Shrimp

When buying shrimp, you have few options, but if you are in a rush, buy already peeled and deveined shrimp. Cleaning shrimp is not difficult, but sometimes it is very time-consuming.

Also, note that large shrimp are the best for grilling or oven baking. Small shrimp will be cooked fast and if you want that charred appearance, they will be overcooked before you achieve that.

The shrimp skewers use bamboo skewers that need to be soaked in water before baking to prevent burning.

For a fast option when you want to grill or bake your shrimp, you can do as I do – soak the entire bunch of bamboo skewers for 30 minutes, then freeze them. Now, every time you need soaked bamboo skewers, they are ready.

How To Season Shrimp

I love shrimp and prepare them quite often. Shrimp are a versatile ingredient and can be used in so many ways.

The beauty of shrimp is that they can be seasoned in so many different ways and each time you can get something different and unique.

Here are some most popular spice and herb combinations you can try:

  • Classic herbed shrimp – Minced chives, parsley, tarragon, chervil, salt, and pepper
  • Garlic herb shrimp – Paprika, garlic, Italian seasoning, lemon juice, salt, and pepper
  • Cajun shrimp – Paprika, garlic powder, oregano, onion, thyme, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.

Shrimp have this mild, almost sweet flavor and they take on whatever flavor you are serving them with.

Which Veggies And Fruits Can Be Paired With Shrimps?

Fruits and vegetables traditionally go perfectly with seafood – both as a side dish and as a part of a recipe that enhances the flavor of the seafood.

These are some of my favorite pairings:

  • Shrimp goes with mango, lime, and diced jalapeno peppers. Arrange pieces of mango shrimps and lime wedges on a bamboo skewer. Grill or bake the shrimp and top them with sliced jalapenos before serving.
  • Shrimp with pineapple and lemon wedges are a refreshing combination you have to try. This one is also in the recipe here. If you want, you can use limes instead of lemon.
  • Shrimp with honeydew melon and teriyaki sauce have a unique flavor and those who prefer Asian-inspired dishes should try this one out.
  • Shrimp with watermelon cubes, mint, thyme, and red pepper flakes are something that should be made over a charcoal grill because the smoke from the grill really elevates the fruit flavors as well as the shrimp.

Baking Vs. Grilling Shrimp

Baking vs grilling shrimps is the same but different. Both methods will give you perfectly cooked shrimp, but the grilled shrimps will have a bit of smoky flavor if you are using a charcoal grill.

In the terms of time, the grilled shrimp will cook faster than those in the oven. Grilled shrimp need around five minutes, while the baked shrimp need from 15 to 20 minutes.

In both methods, your shrimp should be cooked in a single layer, without overlapping. This will ensure they are perfectly cooked.
