Oreo Cookies And Cream Boba Tea
I just love bubble tea — my favorites are those made with chocolate, Oreo cookies, and strawberries. So of course I had to whip up a recipe that could combine all of those flavors!
This Oreo Cookies And Cream Boba Tea is made with only six ingredients — it is super creamy, rich in flavor, and (most importantly) filled with delicious boba! It’s also very refreshing even though it uses rich and flavorful ingredients.
I experimented quite a bit to get the perfect blend of ingredients for this recipe, so believe me when I say it is perfect. This will be one of your favorite bubble teas, especially if you love a creamy blend of Oreos and vanilla ice cream!
Why I Love This Recipe
As you can tell from my intro, I am just crazy about this bubble tea. It is made with simple ingredients, ready in 10 minutes, and has a perfect ratio of Oreos and milk!
This recipe is very customizable, too — if you cherish a certain type of Oreos, like Golden Oreos, you can use them and get the same delicious results.
Also, to give a more chocolatey taste, you can use a scoop of chocolate ice cream — you can also experiment with caramel, pecan, and strawberry ice creams to create new and exciting flavor combinations!
Milk Tea Vs Bubble Tea Vs Boba Shake
These may sound confusing for some, as they did to me at first, but here are some differences between these:
- Milk tea refers to a drink made from milk combined with tea and ice. Boba and other toppings (ex. jelly, custard, or popping flavor pearls) are usually added to this base.
- Boba tea and bubble tea often refer to the same milk tea, just with the addition of chewy tapioca balls as well as other toppings.
- Bubble shake or boba shake refers to a bubble tea that is blended with ice or ice cream to create more of a milkshake consistency.
The boba tea I have made here is a fusion of a classic boba tea and a boba shake — it’s still light enough to be a bubble tea, but also not quite thick enough to be a bubble shake. It is just the perfect ratio of creaminess, cookies, and milk tea!
Best Ingredients To Use
- Milk. You can use any type of milk (ex. plain, skim, or plant-based).
- Oreo Cookies. For this recipe, I went with classic Oreo cookies, but feel free to use your favorite Oreos.
- Vanilla Ice Cream. Vanilla ice cream is a solid base that gives a creaminess and some extra flavor. You can also use chocolate- or strawberry-flavored ice cream because strawberries and chocolate Oreos pair perfectly.
- Boba Pearls. You can find these in many Asian stores, or you can buy them online. Also, I have a recipe for homemade tapioca boba pearls. For this recipe, I went with quick-cooking tapioca pearls, as I did not want to wait very long to enjoy this tea.
- Optional Ingredients (Tea & Fresh Strawberries). I recommend black tea as it pairs well with milk and the rest of the ingredients; however, you can also use green tea. Fresh strawberries will add some freshness and sweetness, but they are not mandatory.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Sweetener. You can use an alternative sweetener to coat your boba pearls — you can use maple syrup or coconut sugar.
- Different Boba Pearls. This recipe uses quick-cooking pearls; however, you can substitute it with your favorite type of boba instead. Just be sure to follow the cooking instructions on your package!
- Gluten-Free. To make this recipe gluten-free, you can sub in your GF chocolate Oreos. Most tapioca pearls are naturally gluten-free; however, be sure to double-check the ingredients of a specific brand.
What If I Don’t Have A Blender?
There are no problems if you do not have a blender, or if it stopped working.
Simply place crushed Oreos in the milk and ice cream for 10 minutes, or until they are softened and begin to dissolve. Then, use a spoon to mix everything!
How To Serve Boba Tea
Serve boba tea immediately. If that is not an option, make sure to consume it within an hour.
If boba pearls sit in cold milk for too long, they will firm up and become too chewy — the drink will still taste pretty good, but the boba won’t be the desired consistency.
