I was doing some research on the Russel Hobbs tea kettle because it no longer heats up to the point where it automatically turns off. It just gets warmish. I wonder why? IT has not been used to death. – have had it for 20 years or so and used perhaps 20 times at the most. I did notice that there is some corrosion on one of the heating elements. Saki not available, Viante is made in China, Zojirushi is made in Japan but has an internal coating, not just plain stainless. Any other options?
Why do home goods made in the USA have to be hideously ugly and modern? Not just tea kettles – light fixtures (which even if not “modern” still speak laziness as a wood beam with a few cables hanging from it is not a chandelier), major appliances (“Want stainless? We have stainless! Everybody loves stainless. You should want stainless.”), computer keyboards…the list goes on. How did we come to a place where we have to look to China to find classic, “farmhouse” or “Victorian” style goods for our homes? (I put these in quotes because these styles were never part of Chinese history and the products are lookalikes even if they are made of real materials, which in itself is unlikely.) Are we really so driven by rock-bottom prices that we have to keep driving our manufacturing overseas, or do we simply value pure functionality over appearance? Before some of you state the case that looks should not matter, consider choosing your food strictly based on nutrition and not on flavor. The “best” option above is #2 (which is no longer available on Amazon, btw) and it’s still stainless and for me functionally useless for pour overs. Show me something made in the US of traditional design, that comes in something other than SS, black, plastic or a combination thereof.
