Juicing has been a go-to dieting trick for over a decade, but what if we told you it isn’t nearly as good as people think?

Fibers that are usually discarded from the juice are actually very good for you and your digestive system, which is why more and more manufacturers have made different juicers to help keep the fiber.

So, what are the best juicers to keep fiber? Any slow juicer will extract as much possible fiber compared to quick centrifugal juicers. Other than that, you can look at coarse juice filters which will indicate the amount of pulp (insoluble fiber) that will pass back into the juice.

Today we will have a look at exactly what these misconceptions are surrounding fiber in juice and explain exactly which juicers to choose for maximum fiber absorption.

Then, we will look at our 5 favorite juicers that are perfect for keeping as much fiber as possible.

The Misconceptions

Before even looking at juicers that keep fiber, it is important to understand why this is a topic in the first place.

First of all, juicers are made to remove fiber from ingredients.

When blending carrots, celery, or apples, the fiber and actual juice are separated to create a so-called “healthier” product.

However, over the last few decades, a massive misconception has been formed surrounding both juicing as a diet and fiber in general.

When it comes to fiber specifically, many believe it to be a bad thing; however, virtually every nutritionist and dietician will tell you that fiber is a key ingredient for a healthy digestive system.

Most don’t recommend juicing as a healthy diet or a way to lose weight.

Another big myth is that juicing machines remove all of the fiber from the ingredients it blends; however, this is another false claim many juicer manufacturing companies make.

How Juicers Works

There are many different types of juicers on the market, but the principal of them remains the same; the produce is placed through a tube and fed into the machine.

The vegetable or fruit is then chopped and blitzed into a thousand pieces by a fast-spinning sharp blade.

The liquid that separates from the fibers moves to a separate jug or container that can then be removed or used to pour juice.

The remaining fibers that cannot be further blended are held separately so they can be removed and discarded.

So, now to debunk the first myth that “all fiber is removed when juicing”. This is absolutely untrue and here is why.

When juicing an ingredient, two main fibers are left behind—soluble fiber and insoluble fiber.

Soluble fibers are easily absorbed in water which is the main ingredient in juice. This means, no matter how much pulp is left, there will always be fiber in the juice itself!

Insoluble fibers are found in the pulp of the juice which is separated from the liquid. Granted, this is where the majority of the fiber is found and, because it gets removed, the majority of the fiber is removed from the juice.

Why Is Fiber Important?

As we have just mentioned, when juicing ingredients there are two main fibers present: soluble and insoluble fiber. Each has its own unique benefits to your digestive system and we wouldn’t recommend removing them from your diet.

Soluble Fiber

Soluble fiber is absorbed by water and therefore will always be present in juice—it can’t be removed! This soluble fiber dissolves in the water and can help slow down your digestion

Another benefit of having slower digestion is that it can help manage your blood sugar levels better.

When you are constantly hungry, you constantly eat, which constantly affects your blood sugar levels and makes it very difficult to manage at a healthy level.

Insoluble Fiber

Insoluble fiber on the other hand has an entirely different type of function: managing your digestive tract.

The insoluble fiber passes through your small and large intestine without breaking down, which can help with intestinal and gut health.

Bottom Line

Fiber is necessary for your diet and has more pros than cons when it comes to juicing. Besides helping your digestion and digestive system, it has a ton of nutrients from the fruits and vegetables you juice that is otherwise lost.

That is why more and more people are looking for juicers that keep their pulp.

What To Look For In A Juicer

Before buying any piece of equipment, it is very important to research exactly what you are looking for. You don’t want to buy a waffle maker if you want to make donuts! The same principle goes for juicers.

Believe it or not, but there are thousands of different juicers available on the market and some definitely work better than others.

Fiber

Considering this article is about juicers keeping fiber, it is pretty important to research whether or not the model you are looking at can keep the fiber.

Filters are what determine how much fiber will enter the juice. Naturally, a fine filter will prevent the pulp from passing, while coarser filters will allow some pulp to go through.

Look whether or not the juicer has an adjustable filter, or what the size of the attached filter is. The larger the coarser the filter is, the more pulp will pass through.

Size

Juicers are relatively large pieces of equipment and not everybody has endless amounts of kitchen counter.

This is why you should always measure the size of the area where you want to keep the juicer. Even if you want to keep it in a cupboard, make sure it is high enough so the juicer will fit.

Not only that but make sure that the cord will reach an outlet point. Most juicers have adjustable cords, but if yours don’t, either have a plan B or look for another juicer.

The size of the juicer will also naturally affect the amount of juice you can make. If you need to make juice for a family of 4, a big one will save you time and cleaning.

However, if you are only making juice for yourself, then choose a smaller juicer to save on money and space.

Uses

There are different types of juicers available and each has its own pros and cons.

Cold-press juicers extract the nutrients from the fruits and vegetables much more effectively compared to centrifugal juicers; however, they take much longer.

It’s also important to always choose a juicer with adjustable speed settings. Most juicers will be able to juice almost any fruit, vegetable, or leafy green, however, some of these juice better at different speeds.

For example, berries can go on slower speeds because they are soft; however, carrots may need a higher speed to effectively chop the hard vegetable.

Cleaning

Juicers can be a nightmare to clean—we’ve been through a few of them! Especially if you are making juice daily, you don’t want to spend hours cleaning the filter!

Have a look at how the juicer should be cleaned and whether or not you are willing to put in the required amount of work. Over the last few years, there have been better designs for easier cleaning, but it can still be a hassle.

Price

All juicers are relatively expensive pieces of equipment – it’s not like buying a toaster. But that doesn’t mean you have to spend millions.

There are a lot of factors that will ultimately affect what you are willing to spend. Bigger juicers are more expensive than smaller ones. Easy-to-clean juicers can also be quite expensive as you are paying for convenience.

Adjustable settings also make the price go up, and unfortunately, so does the quality of the machine. There is no point in buying a juicer that has it all but is made from cheap materials.

Always read the reviews to make sure you know what you are buying and whether you are willing to pay the price.

Centrifugal juicers can make juice in seconds compared to many other types. It is the perfect juicer for constantly on-the-go people!

And what is even better about the design of this machine is that it is extremely easy to clean.

All the removable parts can simply be placed in the dishwasher!

It has also been designed with an automatic pulp disperser so you don’t have to stop juicing to clean the filter.

The feeding tube is also extremely big and has a pre-cutting function inside the machine. This means that you can simply place everything you want inside and get juicing.

There is no need to stand over the machine and feed it one strawberry at a time or spend a ton of time chopping.

And if you thought it couldn’t get any better, this machine comes at an incredibly low price. That being said, low prices usually mean lower quality.

We, however, don’t feel that this is a low-quality juicer. If you compare it with other juicers, you will see that the materials juiced to make it are much cheaper (plastic vs stainless steel).

Although the materials are cheaper, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t durable.

2. KOIOS Masticating Juicer

This is another juicer that we simply love! It has a bit of a chunkier design but is still extremely stylish.

This juicer is another type of slow juicer that ensures as many nutrients are extracted from the juice and remaining pulp.

It also reduces the amount of foam on the juice as well as helps prevent oxidization.

Another big bonus of this machine is that it doesn’t make a lot of noise when juicing. It is also very easy to assemble and even more importantly, easy to clean.

Its biggest downfall is arguably its size, but if you have some counter space, this isn’t a problem at all! This is the perfect juicer for large families and will juice without fail.

3. Omega Vertical Low-Speed Juicer

This is a fantastic juicer on the market that keeps fiber. First, let’s discuss what we love about this juicer.

Starting at its design, this isn’t a very big and bulky juicer.

This is mainly because it has been designed to immediately pour out the juice (into your glass) rather than storing it in big batches.

This means you can easily store it in a cupboard or on your counter without it taking up too much space.

When we have a look at how this machine works, you will see that it is a dual-stage juicer.

What this means is that the ingredients are first crushed to extract the juice, then the remaining pulp is crushed again to extract even more nutrients.

The crushing or squeezing mechanism is better compared to grinding juicers. They tend to leave a better-tasting juice with better color and nutrients.

The juicer also runs at low speeds but isn’t by any means slow. The low speeds help prevent foam from forming on your juice and the color oxidizing.

There are also three settings: on, off, and reverse. The reverse is in case anything gets stuck or jams. It makes it easy to unclog and continue blending immediately.

Lastly, the cleaning of this juicer is extremely easy as it already has an automatic pulp ejection setting. This way you don’t have to disassemble the whole juicer to clean the filters.

4. AMZCHEF Slow Masticating Juicer

This juicer is another fantastic slow juicer that ensures as many nutrients possible are maintained.

Its slow rotation speed also prevents foam build-up, color loss, and oxidation of the juice itself.

It is a juicer that does separate pulp very effectively, but at least a ton of soluble fiber is kept.

This juicer is also on the larger side but is very conveniently designed. It has a container that catches all the juice and another separate container that catches the dry pressed pulp.

This pulp is automatically pushed out which makes working this juicer much more convenient.

It also runs at much lower noise frequencies compared to centrifugal juicers. This juicer is easy to clean and its parts are dishwasher safe.

5. Jocuu Slow Juicer

What we love most about this juicer is its adjustable settings.

You have on and off, but also reverse that will help prevent clogging of any ingredients.

Then, you also have a soft juicing setting and a hard juicing setting.

This is a fantastic feature to have for the harder fruits and vegetables you want to juice.

The machine is bulky and definitely made to be functional, not necessarily stylish. It is very easy to assemble and disassemble, and the parts that need to be cleaned are dishwasher safe.

As with our previous slow juicers, the noise level is extremely low and the juicer will take slightly longer to juice compared to quicker juicers, but it is definitely worth the short wait.
