  • You can substitute regular refined sugar with coconut sugar as a slightly healthy alternative.

How Much Fajita Seasoning Should You Use Per Pound of Meat?

While it all depends on personal taste and how much you want the meat to be seasoned, the optimal amount to use is 2-3 tablespoons for a pound of meat.

If you are cooking with a particular store-bought mix and are not familiar with the intensity of the spices, start slow with 1 tablespoon per pound.

A good thing about homemade fajitas is that you know how much of all spices you have mixed. This will help you tell how much of the seasoning blend you need to add for the desired taste.

Can You Use Fajita Seasoning for Tacos?

Fajita and taco seasoning mixes are quite similar. They both contain such ingredients as chili powder, cumin, oregano, etc. However, there are also some differences between the two.

Taco seasoning usually has more chili powder. Additionally, there are also differences in acidity in the seasonings.

Beefsteak is a popular meat choice for fajitas. And as it is not very tender, an acidic component is needed to make the meat more delicate.

In store-bought fajitas, citric acid or tomato powder is what provides the acidity. If you are using store-bought fajita seasoning for tacos, add a small amount of sugar to the dish to tone down the acidity.

Homemade fajita seasonings are usually made without citric acid. In order to add acidity to the dish, lime juice is added to the seasoning mix to marinate the meat. So, fajita seasoning mixes that lack acidic ingredients can be used for tacos.

You can use fajita and taco seasoning interchangeably. While both will give a Mexican feel to the dish, you may experience slight flavor differences.

  1. I did not have chili powder (which is unusual for me) or tomato powder (never heard of that, interesting) but had the rest and the fajitas turned out sooo good, thank you!! I seasoned my steak for a while with sea salt as a tenderizer…had to use bottom round steak as store didn’t have flank or sirloin.
