Making gourmet coffee has never been easier than it is in this modern age of pod coffeemakers.

Nespresso is a well-known brand that creates easy to use coffee makers and the pods that work in them, so that your latte, cappuccino, or other specialty coffee of choice is ready in minutes, while you’re still in your pajamas.

Nespresso’s Vertuo line of coffee machines is designed to bring you the best espresso and regular coffee without leaving your house. The VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe Machine are especially popular.

So what’s the difference between the VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe? The biggest difference between VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe is the capacity available. The VertuoPlus has a 40-ounce capacity, while the Deluxe model holds 60 ounces. The machines function about the same and offer similar features otherwise.

This article will look at all the features of each machine and detail the differences to make your choice easier. Read on for more information on these great coffee makers!

Vertuo Coffee Machines

If your morning coffee is a ritual that cannot be missed or compromised, Nespresso’s Vertuo line of coffee machines deserves some serious consideration.

Each machine is designed to offer a coffee that is perfect for your every mood and preference, ready at the touch of a single button

The VertoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe models are two of the most popular coffee makers currently on the market. Being from the same line, there are a lot of similarities between the two.

Both of the machines offer a total of 25 unique capsules, including some that are milk-based and/or flavored, and packaged in pods that will fill 5 different cup sizes.

The available cup sizes include:

  • Single-shot espresso
  • Double-shot espresso
  • 5 oz. coffee
  • 8 oz. coffee
  • 15 oz. coffee

Each pod has a barcode that tells the machine how to adapt and make the perfect cup of coffee. The machine will automatically set the correct parameters based on cup size, temperature, pressure, and brew time for each different type of coffee.

The ability to make espresso at home in such a small machine is unique and achieved through the patented extraction technology in this line of machines.

The capsules spin incredibly fast as the coffee brews, creating the crema or foam that is so important to espressos or lattes and cappuccinos, respectively .

The capsules are fully recyclable aluminum, thanks to the convenient Nespresso recycling program.

The water tank on every machine rotates and adjusts to fit the space you have and make it easier to fill. There is also an adjustable cup tray that allows you to use different sized cups, depending on the size of your capsules.

Nespresso VertuoPlus Vs VertuoPlus Deluxe – What’s the Difference?

The VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe are very similar models. Here’s a comparison chart showing their few differences:

As you can see, if you’re deciding between models, it mostly comes down to the capacity you need for your household.

If a lot of coffee is being made regularly, you may find the greater storage capacity of the Deluxe model convenient. In a house with fewer drinkers, the standard VertuoPlus may be plenty.

Though the machines have some of the most important features in common, there are a few key differences. Let’s take a closer look at each model.

Nespresso VertuoPlus

The VertuoPlus model has a 40-ounce capacity and automatically adapts to the type of capsule placed in the machine. There is one single button to press, the coffee machine does all the rest of the work.

The water heats in less than 30 seconds so you have your coffee almost instantaneously and it will automatically shut off after 9 minutes to protect your machine, even if you forget to turn it off manually.

The machine comes with 12 capsules and the option to upgrade to an additional capsule set and/or an Aeroccino milk frother. The machine has enough interior space to accommodate up to 10 used regular sized capsules before it must be emptied.

The VertuoPlus Deluxe has all the features of the VertuoPlus, but it has a larger water capacity, allowing you to fill the machine up to 60 ounces. If you’re a multi-coffee drinker household, the larger capacity will certainly come in handy.

The deluxe unit is the same size as the VertuoPlus, except for the water tank, which holds more water but doesn’t take up much more space on your counter.

Another difference between the two units is the storage space for used capsules. With the deluxe unit, you can store up to 10 large capsules before you need to empty the machine.

If you prefer to drink the larger cups of coffee, as opposed to the espressos, you may find it more convenient to upgrade to the deluxe version. It isn’t difficult to empty the used capsule compartment, but it’s nice to not have to empty it so frequently.

VertuoPlus/Deluxe Add-on Features Available

When you initially purchase your machine there are two optional add-ons for you to consider.

1. Additional Capsule Set

One is an additional capsule set, which gives you 30 extra capsules of their three most popular coffees.

It makes sense to purchase this add-on because the machines only use VertuoPlus capsules. It will save you the time of having to reorder after only 12 cups of coffee.

2. Nespresso Aeroccino Milk Frother

The second add-on is the Aeroccino milk frother.

If your coffee preferences lean toward lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, or cafes au lait, which all have foam, the Aeroccino is going to be a very useful investment.

The Aeroccino is a standalone unit; it doesn’t actually need the VertuoPlus machine to operate.

Just like the VertuoPlus coffee makers, however, it is a one-touch machine. You can froth your milk hot or cold, depending on your preferences. You can even simply heat your milk if you’re not in the mood for foam.

The machine can froth up to 4 ounces and heat up to 8 ounces at a time (the difference is likely because frothing requires more space for the milk to expand). It can heat your milk to up to 170 Fahrenheit.

The Aerocino milk frother is available either in black or silver. It is less than 4 inches wide and not quite 7 inches tall.

VertuoPlus Vs Vertuo Evoluo

The Vertuo line of Nespresso coffee makers also includes the Vertuo Evoluo Coffee and Espresso Machine. It has all of the same features as the VertuoPlus/Deluxe and takes the same capsules.

What sets the Evoluo apart is the larger capacity for used capsules. It can hold up to 17 used capsules before you need to empty the machine and recycle your pods, which is useful in large households or small offices.

The Evoluo also has a larger water capacity than the VertuoPlus, although not quite as much as the VertuoPlus Deluxe, 54 ounces total.

The water tank is not adjustable on this model, however, so it may take up more space on your counter, despite being more compact.

VertuoPlus Vs Vertuo Next

One final model in the Vertuo line that you may want to consider as an option is the Vertuo Next.

This machine is very similar to the others and has all the same features as the models we’ve already discussed, but the Vertuo Next is even more high-tech.

It is slightly smaller, being only 5.5 inches wide with a water capacity of 37 ounces, but it is Bluetooth-enabled. This means the software in your coffee machine will update automatically, adjusting for future new pods and varieties automatically.

The Vertuo Next is also made from 54% recycled plastic, which is a nice bonus if you’re conscious about sustainable solutions. Again, the Nespresso pods are already recyclable.

Related Questions

Can You Make Lattes With the Nespresso VertuoPlus?

A latte is made using espresso and steamed milk.

Before the Vertuo line of machines, you would need a specialty machine to make espresso, however, it’s a distinguishing feature of Nespresso’s technology.

The machine does not steam milk, however, so you can’t make a latte with the push of a single button.

You can make lattes with the Nespresso VertoPlus or any of the related line of coffee if you froth your milk separately, using either their Aeroccino machine or any other milk frother you may have.

Can the Nespresso VertuoPlus Froth Milk?

The machine itself does not froth milk, but it can create a crema-like layer on the surface of your espresso. This is made from the coffee itself, not milk, and is unique to the Vertuo line of machines.

As we’ve discussed above, there is an additional device that pairs well with the VertuoPlus machine, however, if you love your frothy milk.

The Aeroccino is a standalone unit that can be purchased with the VertuoPlus machine or separately. It has the ability to froth milk hot or cold, and can also heat milk to up to 170 Fahrenheit.

You can use the milk frother to customize your coffee however you like it, making cappuccinos, lattes, mochas, or even cold foam for your iced beverages.

Nespresso Vertuo – Delonghi Vs Breville?

Nespresso is the engineer of the Vertuo line of coffee machines and the technology that powers them. De’Longhi and Breville are two appliance brand partners that do the actual manufacturing of the machines within North America.

Both have been around since the early 1900s and are quite reliable.

De’Longhi is an Italian company best known for making espresso and coffee machines, whereas Breville is a manufacturer from Australia with a more generalized manufacturing focus, mainly kettles, blenders, and other small appliances.

The technology used to make the Vertuo models are exactly the same, regardless of who manufactured the models, although there are a few aesthetic differences.

Neither model is better than the other in terms of function. Ultimately, the one you choose will be based on personal preference and perhaps availability.
