It may seem a little taboo, but there are plenty of reasons why you may need to remove the cream filling from your Oreo cookie. Now, you could do it yourself at home (and we will certainly be covering that tutorial), but that’s a lot of work and takes a ton of time.

So, can you buy Oreos without cream? And where can you do so? Luckily for us, there are a couple of different options you can try if you are only looking for Oreo wafers.

But before choosing any product, you have to consider how they are best used, their availability, and even more importantly, their price.

Today, we will look at exactly what Oreos are and how they differ from Oreos without cream. Then, as promised, we will give you a comprehensive list of wafers (or wafer-like alternatives) and where exactly you can get them.

Original Oreos – Why Are They So Popular?

By now, virtually everyone knows what Oreo cookies are! But this brand is actually far more impressive than most people realize.

First of all, Oreo cookies have been around since 1912 when they were initially launched in the United States. That’s over 110 years ago! An extremely impressive feat for any food brand in the 21st century!

They can be found globally and come in MANY different flavors.

In fact, they are so popular, that they often collaborate with other brands and products to produce Oreo-flavored treats like Oreo Cherry Cola, Oreo Swedish Fish, Oreo Ice Cream Sandwiches, and Oreo Peeps (to name a few).

What’s even more impressive is the range of Oreo products released by the brand itself.

Some of the most popular Oreo products they have released include the Double Stuff Oreo, Golden Oreo, Oreo Mini, Chocolate Oreo, and Oreo Cakesters.

But if you are curious as to all the limited edition products that are out there, take a look at this extensive list.

Now, it’s nearly impossible to say exactly why Oreo has become so popular. It may be the fact that they have been around for over a century.

Or that the cookies are affordable, easily accessible, and come in a wide range of flavors. It could also simply be because the sandwich cookies are incredibly tasty! Who really knows?

But the bottom line remains that to this day, Oreo is hands-down the most popular brand of cookie, having sold roughly 450 billion (yes, that’s “billion” with a “B”) units since 1912.

What Are Oreo Cookies Made Of?

So, what’s the secret?

Well, believe it or not, Oreo cookies are quite simple and only use 11 main ingredients.

They are made from two flat chocolate biscuits that have a delicious sweet creamy icing-like vanilla-flavored filling.

The ingredients include sugar, unbleached enriched flour, palm or canola oil, cocoa, corn syrup, baking soda, corn starch, salt, soy lecithin, vanilla, and chocolate.

May seem like a handful at first, but go take a look at the ingredients list of your average packet of cookies today.

Naturally, this list does change depending on the exact Oreo product (or brand mash-up) made.

What Are Oreos Without Cream?

Oreos without cream are also commonly referred to as “Oreo wafers.” Essentially, they are chocolate biscuits without vanilla cream filling.

But why would you want an Oreo like that? Isn’t the cream filling the best part?

Well, to some, yes. But a surprising number of fans don’t want this vanilla frosting at all! And there are actually even more reasons why you may just want the cookies.

Some people crush the biscuits and use the Oreo cookie crumbs to create delicious crunchy toppings, cake pops, or even pie crusts

Another reason the cream filling isn’t super popular with some people is that it does contain the highest amount of calories (when compared to the biscuits). So, removing the filling is a great way to still get some of the tasty Oreo flavor, without all of the calories.

And finally, many consumers have turned vegan or vegetarian and try to avoid creamy frosting, which usually contains dairy products.

However, lucky for them, Oreos are actually completely vegan – even the filling!

Do They Sell Oreos Without Cream?

Now, the million-dollar question: Can you buy Oreos without the cream?

Luckily for you, there are a couple of options you can try before reverting to the time-consuming and tedious task of separating these parts by yourself.

Let’s take a look at the three best options if you are looking for Oreos without cream.

Where To Buy Oreos Without Cream

When initially taking on the task of searching for these products, we actually found that they are much easier to find and buy online than in-store.

If you want to find them on foot, your best bet is to look at your imported candy store (some regular candy shops and grocery stores will also stock them) or your baking supply store.

But again, searching for these products online yielded much better and more affordable results.

1. Oreo Wafers

Oreo wafers, as we’ve already mentioned, are Oreo cookies without the white creamy filling.

When you look online, you will find some options available that were hand-sorted by an individual.

However, Oreo actually sells their wafers in bulk.

Virtually all of the wafer-only products we could find are only sold in bulk sizes (like 23 to 25 pounds each).

And naturally, that makes this purchase quite expensive.

So, depending on what you want to use these for, how often you want to use them, and what your budget is, you may want to consider an alternative product first.

2. Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich Wafers

These are pretty similar to the above-mentioned product, but the main difference is that the ice cream sandwich Oreo cookies are much larger in size.

And even more importantly, we couldn’t find any options that are actually manufactured by Nabisco (the company that makes Oreo cookies).

That being said: if you aren’t marketing your product as “Oreo” and don’t mind a slight difference in flavor and potentially color, these work great.

Most of these products have very similar features and can still be crushed and or eaten as-is.

3. Oreo Cookie Sticks ‘N Creme Dip

This product is arguably the most difficult to find on today’s list. Furthermore, it’s definitely not available globally.

We could find some options on Amazon, but they are sold out quite frequently.

Nevertheless, if you can get your hands on these, you will be able to use the chocolate biscuits AND cream vanilla filling separately.

This is ideal when making a no-bake pie crust or Oreo cake pops.

And surprisingly, the Sticks ‘N Dip snack packs aren’t that expensive.

4. Oreo Small Cookie Crumbs

Next up, we have a fantastic alternative that works incredibly well for crushed Oreo cookies. Obviously, you don’t have control over the size of the crumbs that you get, however, if you are making pie crusts or cake pops, it doesn’t matter.

These small Oreo cookie crumbs come pre-crushed, which also saves you a lot of time.

Now, personally, we feel like they are a little pricey for the amount that you get. But, if you consider that this is a prepared ingredient created for convenience, it makes sense.

So again, consider how much you need and whether or not the price is worth the labor of doing it yourself.

5. Oreo Baking Crumbs

These are similar to the Oreo small cookie crumbs we mentioned above. But there are quite a few differences between these two products, how they can be used, and their availability.

First of all, if you needed to make a crushed cookie Oreo crust, this pre-mix will make that process A LOT easier and hassle-free.

You don’t have to buy multiple expensive small bags, and you don’t even have to measure out any ingredients.

You can rest assured knowing that what you bought is what you need.

Secondly, usually, there is a couple of “Oreo baking crumb” options available. They are almost always sold as “crust mixes,” but some products are simply labeled as “baking crumbs.”

I wouldn’t necessarily say that they are much easier to find, but there certainly are more options out there. Furthermore, they work out a lot cheaper than buying Oreo wafers, snack packs, or small crumb packets individually.

The only downside is that the premixes also often include a filling pre-mix. So, if you wanted to make your own (or are planning on making something entirely different), the filling mixture will go to waste.

6. Oreo Pie Crusts

Last, but certainly not least, you also have the option to buy a premade Oreo pie crust. These are extremely handy if you did want to make an Oreo crust.

And what makes it better than the option mentioned above is that it doesn’t come with a filling or filling premix. So, you only pay for the crust and what you need.

Now, what if you didn’t want to make a crust? That’s no problem! You can still use it and crush it to make Oreo wafer crumbs.

Most of these premade Oreo pie crusts are sold frozen. So, if you do want to crush them, you will need to bake them slightly to dry them out.

Once dried, they will make much better (and even finer) Oreo cookie crumbs.

Making Oreos Without Cream At Home

Now, if none of the above-mentioned options works for you, the only thing that is left to do is make your own Oreo biscuits without the cream. But we warned: it’s a messy, time-consuming, and tedious process.

However, you will likely end up paying far less for the wafers and you will also have access to them immediately. Obviously, buying products online (and even getting them from the bakery or stores) takes time.

Another benefit of separating them yourself at home is that you end up with exactly the amount your need. You don’t have to buy bulk or pay a fortune for a bunch of small bags.

So, how do you make your own Oreo wafers without cream? Here is the step-by-step guide.

  1. To start, get three medium to large bowls in front of you. If you want to make the process less messy, you can also work over a chopping board or plate.
  2. Place all the whole Oreos in one bowl.
  3. Take one Oreo and grab each cookie tightly. Then, gently twist them in opposite directions until they separate from the cream filling.
  4. Use the flat side (back) of a butter knife and scrape off the cream filling.
  5. Place the cream filling in one mixing bowl and the cleaned Oreo wafers into the other.

What Can You Use Oreo Cream For?

If you decided to dismantle the Oreo cookies yourself, you will be left with a bunch of Oreo filling and nothing to do with it. Sure, you can eat it as is. But that gets pretty nauseating on its own surprisingly quickly.

But what you can do with the filling alone?

One of our favorite recipes to make with the cream filling from Oreos is cheesecake. They can help substitute some of the cream cheese. Just keep in mind that the filling is already sweetened.

So, you may need to reduce the amount of sugar in the cheesecake filling recipe.

You can also use some of the beaten cream filling to make cake pops with. They will help bind the Oreo crumbs and cake.

And finally, if you are out of ideas, you can always just incorporate the beaten cream into a frosting and use it as such.

How Do You Store Oreos Without Cream?

Whether you buy the wafer cookies or separate them yourself at home, you will likely end up with some leftovers that will need to be stored, especially if you end up buying bulk wafers!

The best way to store the chocolate Oreo wafers is in an airtight container or resealable bag. You can keep them in a cool and dry place away from any heat sources, direct sunlight, and high humidity.

If you need to store the cream filling, you can store it in an airtight container at room temperature. However, once the filling is removed, we prefer storing the filling in the fridge.

Related Questions

Are Oreos healthier without the cream filling?

If you think about it, you are removing a part of the cookie.

So naturally, the entire Oreo will contain fewer calories once the cream filling is removed.

But is it healthier? In some ways, yes, but in others, no. A large part of the sugar has been removed, but that still doesn’t make the entire cookie “healthy.” Moderation is key when it comes to any treat, especially the sweeter ones.

How much does an Oreo weigh without the cream?

In total, a whole assembled Original Oreo cookie weighs 11.3 grams. Two cookie wafers from a single Oreo cookie are said to only weigh about 8.1 grams. The filling (for a regular Oreo cookie) weighs 3.2 grams.

Are Oreos without the cream filling vegan?

As we’ve mentioned before, all parts of an Oreo are vegan. So it doesn’t really matter whether or not the filling is there because the filling itself is also vegan.

How many calories are in an Oreo without filling?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a set answer for this seeing as the nutritional breakdown of an Oreo isn’t separated into “cookie” and “filling.”

A whole Original Oreo contains 20-22 calories. By removing the sweet, fatty cream filling, you will half the calorie count. But again, there is no specific answer at this point in time.
