A great way to do that is to experiment with different flavors of coffee creamers and coffee beans. But sometimes you want to take your coffee to frothy new heights. That’s where milk frothers come in.

These little devices are an affordable and fun investment that can take your coffee time from basic to bougie. Most people are familiar with frothing milk or cream, but what about creamers?

So, can you froth coffee creamer? Yes, you can froth liquid or powdered coffee creamer using a milk frother, a whisk, a press-style frother, or an immersion blender. If you don’t have a milk frother you can even use a mason jar or a regular blender to get that airy texture.

Recently, lots of companies have also started making coffee creamers out of dairy alternatives such as coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, and cashew milk. These options are great for folks with dairy allergies, lactose intolerances, or who follow vegan diets. 

To make sure you get the best results, look for dairy-free options that are specifically for coffee creamer and not just the standard nut or oat milks.

The coffee creamer options might have different ingredients added to help them stay creamy and emulsify into your drink. 

Can You Froth Creamer In A Milk Frother?

While the name might seem to indicate that this frother is only for milk, it works perfectly with coffee creamers as well.

Most milk frothers are essentially small, electric whisks that you can fit into a coffee cup or small pitcher, so they are incredibly easy to use with any type of creamer. 

Milk frothers work just like a regular whisk, in that they whisk as much air into the creamer or milk as possible.

This creates a light, airy texture that adds a luscious creaminess to your regular cup of coffee. Essentially, by using a frother you are creating a foam to pour into your coffee instead of regular creamer.

Using a creamer instead of milk is going to give you a more decadent final product. You can also use your milk frother to froth your creamer for matcha or coffee lattes, iced coffees, hot chocolate, or other decadent hot or cold drinks.

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With A Milk Frother

Just because they are most commonly used at a coffee shop doesn’t mean you need to be intimidated by milk frothers!

The ones you can get for home use are super easy to use and can add a soothing step to your morning coffee ritual. 

Some frothers are going to be a little easier to use than others. The milk steamers and frothers require almost no effort on your part, while the whisk frothers will require a couple extra steps.

Follow the directions below to start frothing your coffee creamer like a pro! 

Remember, that you will likely want to heat your creamer a little before you start frothing. You can do so in the microwave or in a small saucepan.

Be careful not to bring your coffee creamer to a boil or it can curdle

How To Froth Liquid Coffee Creamer With A Whisk Milk Frother

  1. Find a small pitcher or a jar with high sides. 
  2. Add your desired amount of coffee creamer to the jar or pitcher.
  3. Insert your whisk into the cream. 
  4. Whisk until light and fluffy. Since creamer is thicker than milk, the final foam won’t be as light and airy as a milk foam, but you should still get a lovely texture. 
  5. Pour your frothed creamer into your coffee, hot chocolate, or latte. 
  6. Enjoy. 

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With An Automatic Milk Frother

  1. Figure out how much coffee creamer you want to use for your drink and add it to the frother.
  2. Follow the instructions to turn it on.
  3. Wait. 
  4. Once the cycle has completed, pour your coffee creamer into your drink and enjoy. 

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With A Press-Style Milk Frother

  1. Pour your coffee creamer into the press, filling it no more than one third full.
  2. Insert the lid and plunger attachment. 
  3. Push and pull the plunger up and down until you achieve your desired frothiness. It should take about a minute. 
  4. Pour your creamer into your coffee, tea, latte, or hot chocolate and enjoy. 

If you want to use a powdered coffee creamer, you will want to rehydrate it with some water or milk so that it can be frothed.

The more liquid you add, the more foamy the final texture of your creamer will be.

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With A Whisk

Since most at-home milk frothers are just small electric whisks, it makes sense that you could use a regular whisk to get the job done.

It will require some elbow grease, but the final result will be frothy and delicious.

Follow these steps to froth your coffee creamer with a whisk: 

  1. Add your coffee creamer to a bowl, making sure to fill it no more than a third. 
  2. Tilt the bowl on its side with one hand and vigorously whisk the creamer with the other hand until you have achieved the frothy texture you’re looking for. 
  3. When finished, pour your coffee creamer into your coffee or beverage and enjoy.

How To Froth Coffee Creamer In A Mason Jar 

This method is one of the simplest you can try, and it’s accessible since most people have a jar lying around their kitchen.

It does take a bit of effort, since your arm works as the frother, but the final product will be lovely and frothy.

Follow the steps below to froth your coffee creamer in a jar. 

  1. Fill your jar about a third of the way with your favorite coffee creamer.
  2. Tightly seal the lid on your jar. 
  3. Vigorously shake the jar for about a minute or so, until your coffee creamer is frothed. It likely won’t get as light and airy as it would if you used a milk frother, but it should still be a nice texture.
  4. Pour your coffee creamer into your drink and enjoy.

Another option you can use to froth your milk is an immersion, handheld, or stick blender (they’re all the same thing).

This method is one of my favorites because it’s super fast and can give you a really frothy and amazing final result.

I also think immersion blenders are one kitchen tool every home cook should have. They are so versatile and I use mine almost every day.

Not only can you froth your coffee creamer (or milk), but you can also use them to:

  • Puree soups 
  • Make smoothies 
  • Emulsify salad dressings for a creamy texture
  • Make mayonnaise 
  • Blend your favorite dips

Many of them also come with a whisk attachment and even mini food processors, so their use in the kitchen is virtually endless.

The whisk is perfect for frothing your coffee creamer separately and most come with a container that is perfect for the process. 

You can also save some steps by blending your coffee (or tea or hot chocolate) directly with your coffee creamer and sweetener in one quick and easy step. I will outline both methods below.

Follow these steps to perfectly froth your coffee creamer with an immersion blender. 

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With An Immersion Blender: Just The Creamer

  1. Using the container that came with the immersion blender, fill it a third of the way with your coffee creamer. 
  2. Attach the whisk attachment to the immersion blender handle. 
  3. Insert the whisk into the coffee creamer, turn on the immersion blender, and whisk until light and frothy. 
  4. Once you’ve achieved your desired frothiness, pour the coffee creamer into your drink of choice and enjoy.

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With An Immersion Blender: All-In-One Process 

This method is the best because you can combine all of your ingredients in one container and buzz them all together for a perfectly frothed and delicious drink in no time. 

  1. Add your coffee (or tea or drink of choice) to the container that came with the immersion blender. 
  2. Add your sweetener and coffee creamer. Make sure you don’t fill it more than 1/2 full. 
  3. Attach the blender attachment to the handle. 
  4. Insert into the container and make sure it touches the bottom.
  5. Turn on and buzz until you have achieved your desired consistency. If you move the blender up and down make sure it does not get too close to the surface or it will spray coffee everywhere.
  6. When finished, remove the immersion blender, pour into a mug, and enjoy. 

Can You Froth Coffee Creamer With A Regular Blender?

If you have a regular blender, you can use it to froth your coffee creamer. This method works in a pinch, but it’s not my favorite since cleaning out the blender can be such a pain.

However, it does create a lovely light and fluffy texture, so it can be worth the extra tidying. 

If you have a venting blender, like a Vitamix or a Blendtec, then you can even buzz your coffee creamer together with your coffee, which can be convenient since it only requires one step

This is the method I use every morning to make my favorite hot chocolate. I have a Vitamix and I use it every single day.

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With A Regular Blender: Just The Creamer

  1. Add your coffee creamer to your blender. You can add a little water or extra milk for a lighter and airier texture. 
  2. Turn on your blender and buzz until you get your frothy bubbles.
  3. Once completed, turn off the blender and pour your milk into your coffee or hot beverage and enjoy.

How To Froth Coffee Creamer With A Regular Blender: All-In-One 

This method can ONLY be used if you have a VENTING blender. If you try to do this method in a regular blender that doesn’t let the heat escape then you can end up burning yourself.

The hot coffee or drink builds up pressure and can make the lid pop off and spray hot liquid everywhere.

DO NOT attempt this method without a specific venting blender such as a Vitamix or Blendtec. 

  1. Add your hot coffee (or other beverage) to your blender. 
  2. Add the coffee creamer and sweetener to the blender.
  3. Put the lid on the blender and turn on low to start. 
  4. Slowly increase the speed and let the blender buzz until everything has incorporated and become frothy and light. 
  5. Turn the speed back down to low and then turn the blender off. 
  6. Pour your frothed drink into a mug and enjoy.
