Texas Roadhouse Cinnamon Honey Butter (Copycat Recipe)
Texas Roadhouse cinnamon honey butter is four ingredients: salted butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon, whipped until it’s pale and fluffy. That’s the entire secret, and it takes five minutes.
The restaurant goes through this stuff by the bucket because it turns bread into an event. I make a batch whenever I bake rolls, and it disappears faster than the rolls do.
Here’s my copycat, why powdered sugar and whipping are the two details that matter, and how to keep a tub of it in the fridge at all times, which I recommend as a lifestyle.
Why This Copycat Works
Two details separate the real thing from every grainy, greasy imitation.
Powdered sugar, not granulated. Granulated sugar never fully dissolves in butter, so you get sweet grit. Powdered sugar has cornstarch in it and dissolves instantly, which gives the butter that smooth, almost frosting-like texture the restaurant version has.
Whipping, not stirring. The roadhouse butter is noticeably lighter than a stick of butter, closer to a spread. Three to four minutes with a hand mixer folds air into the butter and changes the texture completely. Stirred versions taste right but feel wrong.
What You Need (Makes About 3/4 Cup)
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, fully softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Salted butter is the correct call here. The salt is what keeps the sweetness from going flat, the same trick that makes salted caramel work. If unsalted is all you have, add a small pinch of fine salt.
How To Make Texas Roadhouse Butter
Step 1: Soften The Butter Properly
Leave the stick on the counter for about an hour. It should dent easily with a finger but not look greasy. Microwaved, half-melted butter won’t hold air, and the whole point of this recipe is air.
Step 2: Whip The Butter Alone First
Beat the butter by itself for a minute until it’s smooth and slightly lightened. Starting solo lets it loosen up before the other ingredients arrive.
Step 3: Add Everything Else And Whip
Add the powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon. Beat on medium-high for 3 to 4 minutes, scraping the bowl once, until the butter is pale, fluffy, and looks like cinnamon frosting. Taste it. If you want it sweeter, another spoonful of powdered sugar whips right in.
Step 4: Serve It Slightly Soft
Room temperature is where this butter lives its best life. Straight from the fridge it firms up, so give it 15 minutes on the counter before serving, or whip it again for a few seconds.
What To Put It On
Warm rolls are the obvious answer, and if you want the full restaurant experience at home, my copycat of the Texas Roadhouse rolls is the companion recipe to this one. Beyond that: toast, biscuits, cornbread, pancakes, waffles, sweet potatoes, and banana bread. A spoonful melted over roasted carrots is genuinely great and lets you pretend it’s a vegetable dish.
If you’re a fan of restaurant bread programs in general, this butter also does remarkable things to my copycat Cheesecake Factory brown bread.
Storage
Fridge: an airtight container keeps it for about 2 weeks. The cinnamon flavor actually deepens by day two.
Freezer: scoop it into a log on parchment, roll it up, and freeze for up to 3 months. Slice off rounds as needed, which also looks suspiciously professional on a dinner table.
Counter: a serving dish is fine for a few hours, but this is dairy, so it goes back in the cold overnight.
Cinnamon Honey Butter FAQ
Is This Exactly What Texas Roadhouse Uses?
The restaurant hasn’t published its recipe, but the ingredient panel logic is simple: butter, sugar, honey, cinnamon, whipped. This ratio gets you a butter that tastes like what lands on the table with the rolls, and nobody at my table has ever flagged a difference.
Can I Use Unsalted Butter?
Yes, with a pinch of fine salt added. Skipping the salt entirely makes the butter taste one-dimensional and overly sweet, because salt is what balances the honey and sugar.
Why Is My Honey Butter Grainy?
Granulated sugar or cold butter. Powdered sugar dissolves instantly and granulated never quite does, and butter that’s too cold won’t emulsify the honey smoothly. Soft butter plus powdered sugar equals smooth every time.
How Long Does Cinnamon Honey Butter Last?
About 2 weeks refrigerated in an airtight container, or 3 months frozen. If it ever smells sour or picks up fridge odors, it’s done.
