Whether you hunt, ranch, or simply buy your meat in bulk from a butcher, preparing large cuts of meat at home can be a challenge.

Without large professional tools it can be a struggle to get your meat cut exactly how you want it. This is especially true with slab bacon!

There are machines small enough to be used at home rather than in a fully commercial setting. It can be tricky to figure out which products make good investments and which make good paperweights.

So, what are the best bacon slicers? The best bacon slicers are durably built machines, preferably from stainless or carbon steel. They should be larger, as it’ll help with larger cuts of meat that need to be sliced. If they’re electric and have self-sharpening blades, that is also a plus.

We’ve gathered together the 7 best bacon slicers for you to help make things easier.

Read on to learn what you should look at to help choose the best bacon slicer for your needs and then take a look at our list. Your dream machine could be waiting!

How To Choose The Best Bacon Slicers

Anytime you buy a household appliance or kitchen gadget, making a decision can be tough. These sorts of products frequently have a specialized job that you’ll be counting on them for.

Here are some of the factors that tip the scales when choosing a bacon slicer.

Materials Used

How long do you want your bacon slicer to last? If you plan on using it heavily or want to keep it for a very long time, try to stay away from plastic parts.

Plastic parts are cheaper, but they generally don’t hold up to heavy use or last a very long time.

For durability, metal construction is going to be the way to go.

The main parts of a bacon slicer are the base/body, the blade, the pusher, and the platform.

The platform is what your meat sits on to prepare for slicing, the pusher helps move the meat towards the blade, and the base provides support.

You want to have as much of these critical pieces made of metal as possible. Preferably you want cast metal pieces as they will be stronger.

The exception to this is the pusher, which is not always permanently attached to the base.

This piece is sometimes made out of plastic because it isn’t weight-bearing and so it doesn’t wear down as quickly. This is a good cost-saving measure that also reduces the overall weight.

Size

Simply put, size matters. With a cut of meat like slab bacon, you may want a machine with a very large blade. This will enable you to cut long strips of bacon, rather than having to cut your slab in half before slicing.

The weight of the machine can sometimes become a concern, however. This is especially true if you choose a model made mostly or entirely out of metal. A large machine of this type can weigh close to 50 pounds

If you have a smaller kitchen space and need to store the bacon slicer elsewhere when not in use, a larger machine may be impractical or cumbersome.

If you can leave it in one place, then it may be worth it to purchase a heavier machine that’s large enough for whole slabs.

Easy To Clean

Anytime you’re working with raw meat, cleanliness should be a top priority. You do not want to have to worry about cross-contamination whatsoever. It is paramount to have a clean machine and a clean workspace.

When choosing your bacon slicer, you’ll want to consider how easy or difficult it will be to clean and maintain.

For example, some models have removable blades and some do not. Some models have housing that prevents easy access to moving parts, some do not.

Ideally, you want a machine that disassembles and reassembles easily. This way you can separate all the major components and ensure everything is cleaned properly before being reassembled and stored for future use.

Another option is to choose a model that allows easy access to all parts that may require cleaning. If your machine does not come apart completely or you are not willing to take the machine apart after every use, this is a good choice.

Regardless of what you choose, make sure you are confident that you can fully clean the machine after every use to prevent any unwanted transfer of bacteria.

Extra Features

Bonus options shouldn’t be the main factor in your decision, but it can be a great tie-breaker between two solid options.

Knowing what extra capabilities a meat slicer has might help you decide what to buy and what to leave on the shelf.

One extra that can be incredibly useful is included sharpeners. Some machines have grindstones attached to the back of the housing that allow you to sharpen the blade as needed.

This gives you a great value because you can use each individual blade longer before you need to worry about replacing it.

Some models will be labeled as automatic or semi-automatic. Generally, this just means that once you turn the machine on the blade will spin constantly and you simply need to move your cut of meat across the blade for slicing.

Some slicers even have a slanted platform that uses gravity to pull the meat down towards the blade. This then relies on the weight of the meat itself to push it into the blade for slicing and you have to do virtually nothing.

Footprint, weight, blade size, overall quality…the Vbenlem commercial meat slicer is impressive.

Weighing in at 49 pounds with a footprint that is nearly 2 square feet, this is a good choice if you have a dedicated place to keep the machine at all times.

The larger size is probably not beneficial if you need to store it out of sight between uses but it has some standout features.

The cutting blade is 12 inches across, which should give you plenty of room to cut all but the widest slabs into sliced bacon. The body is made out of stainless steel, and it has anti-skid rubber feet for a stable cutting base.

There is a knob on the side of the housing that allows you to precisely dial in the thickness of the cut. The available cut thickness on this machine ranges from 1-16mm.

The on/off buttons on this machine are waterproof so you don’t need to be concerned about accidentally shorting the internal component. The blade is also self-sharpening which will help it last after multiple uses.

2. Anescra

The Anescra electric deli slicer is all metal except for the pusher, which is a removable plastic piece.

This model allows the user to remove the blade if desired.

The blades are 7.5 inches across, made of 304 stainless steel, and two of them are included in your initial purchase.

The thickness of each slice is adjustable from a small ergonomic knob on the side of the housing. The knob adjusts between 0-15mm. Of the two included blades, one is serrated and one is smooth

If easy cleanup is a priority for you, this machine has it. The food push, platform, knob, and blade are all removable without the use of tools.

This model weighs just under 11 pounds and has a relatively small footprint. This makes it ideal for smaller kitchens where it would have to be stored out of sight in between each use to save counter space.

One minor inconvenience specific to using this model to slice slab bacon is the way it is constructed.

Because it has a more moderately sized blade, you only have about 7.5 inches as your maximum cut length. This means you would need to cut your slab in half before slicing.

3. Ostba

The Ostba meat slicer has a cast iron body, stainless steel blade, and a plastic pusher piece.

The included blade is 7.5 inches across with a 6-inch cutting area.

The blade is serrated, although smooth blades that fit the machine are available and blades are easily removable.

The motor on this model is not as strong as some of the other models listed, clocking in at 150rpm. According to the manufacturer, this is done purposely to provide better power for smoother cuts.

It’s also worth noting that some of the internal gears and other parts are plastic.

The maker offers a 2-year warranty, but generally speaking, plastic doesn’t last as long as metal. The plastic components mean this is a better model for a casual user.

The Ostba slicer has a petite appearance as well. It weighs under 9 pounds and the footprint is approximately 14×10 inches.

With the partially plastic construction, small size, lightweight, and slower motor, this model is a great choice for anybody who needs this type of tool but may not want to invest a ton of money or space into their newest kitchen gadget.

4. KWS

The KWS meat slicer is meant for both commercial application on a small scale as well as home use.

This means you get more power than you might expect out of a home machine.

You also get lower noise than with many commercial models.

This model is on the larger side; it weighs approximately 37 pounds. The footprint is 20×18 inches.

With the exception of the pusher piece and the various knobs and bolt covers which are plastic, this machine is made from stainless steel with an aluminum alloy base.

The blade is 10-inch stainless steel and teflon-coated. The blade is capable of slicing thicknesses from 0-10mm. Attached to the housing are dual whetstones which are perfect to sharpen the blade and will not get lost.

The entire platform tray assembly can be easily removed using a pull knob underneath the tray. This allows for thorough cleaning with minimal efforts.

The blade is also removable and although quite durable, you are able to buy replacement blades if required.

The machine’s on/off switch is waterproof, and the small rubber feet that the machine rests on are skidproof. This machine is mid-range in terms of size and weight, with a surprisingly powerful motor.

5. Zica

This model of bacon slicer from Zica is another that is intended for both commercial and home use.

It has a larger footprint and a mid-range weight of 34 pounds.

It also features an all-metal construction with the exception of plastic trim pieces.

It sharpens the blade as it is used and prevents it from becoming dull. This way you are able to use the blade for a lot longer without replacing it.

On the side of the housing is a large knob that you can use to adjust the slickness of the cuts you are making with the slicer. This can be adjusted anywhere between 0-12mm

The power switch is waterproof and has two separate buttons for on and off, similar to keys on a keyboard. This makes it easier to toggle the power with one hand without needing to bend to the side and actually look at the switch.

6. Vevor

Vevor’s commercial meat slicer offers durable commercial quality with a smaller size that is better suited to home use.

The footprint is 14×18 inches and the machine weighs 40 pounds.

The model features independent on/off switches and a knob on the side of the housing to adjust the thickness of your slices.

With this knob, you can slice meat 0.2-12mm in thickness

The plastic shield/pusher piece of the rolling tray is permanently fixed to the tray. It’s possible that this may make clean-up more difficult if bits of food were to get caught in the crevice where the plastic and metal join together.

The blade is 10 inches across and made of carbon steel. This model features a built-in whetstone that is attached to this housing near the top of the blade.

This helps maintain a well-honed blade to prolong the life of each blade that you use and give you the perfect cut.

It’s also light enough to move around easily.

It has an 18×16 inch footprint and a weight of 30 pounds.

The blade is 9 inches across, with an integrated whetstone to keep it sharp and cutting well. The shield on the end of the meat platform is a strong plastic, which is permanently affixed to the platform itself.

The other part of the pusher mechanism has a spike metal plate which allows you to keep a sure grip on the meat so you get a smooth cut every time.

  1. Your reviews for Bacon slicers are misleading, none of these slicers listed can handle a 10 to 12-inch bacon slab to-slice. Most of them have a tray size of 7 to 9 inches wide, that’s not going to do the job for someone who smokes his own bacon and then wants to slice it.

    1. Hi JD,
I agree 100% with your comment. I’ve searched for answers on finding a bacon slicer and haven’t found anything helpful. Do you have any recommendations? I make my own bacon and would love to find a slicer that does the job.
